Lee Marvin
I watched Point Blank again last night. Lost count of the amount of times I’ve seen it over the years. Lee Marvin is great in it. I first saw him in The Dirty Dozen when I was a kid; I found him terrifying and compelling all at once. Other kids were into Clint Eastwood (or maybe Burt Reynolds - if they were the slow kids). But for me, Marv was THE hero. I got all nostalgic...

L.A. Confidential - Review
Is this the best crime movie ever made? I dunno. But it sure as hell makes my top five favourite films of all time. So many great lines. Officer: What took you, Stensland? Stensland: My partner stopped to help a damsel in distress. He’s got his priorities all screwed up. * * * * * Captain Dudley Smith: Go back to Jersey, sonny. This is the City of the Angels, and you haven’t...

Movie Review
Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) I watched Todd Solondz’s indie favourite again the other night.  I remembered it being more of a broad comedy - maybe I had a different sense of humour back then? It is funny, but it’s disturbing too. Anyone who didn’t feel like one of the popular kids at school will identify with poor Dawn Weiner. ‘You didn’t come in here to wash...

Movie Review
Terminator Salvation (2009) Possibly the biggest piece of crap I’ve seen in a very long time. I love SF movies, but bad SF movies give me a fever-like rage.  This one comes close to Armageddon for all-time crapness. I’m not going into it here - I wrote a review but frankly, it barely scratches the surface. I had a limited word count.
